Who runs this site

CarbonWear is a ChainWear project.

Nature of the service

CarbonWear calculates an estimate of climate impact only (kg CO₂e) for garments and fabrics, from raw materials until the garment leaves the factory, based on the data entered by the user and on public emission factors.

• The result is not a certification, a PEF study or a third-party verified environmental declaration.
• It depends on the data entered: incomplete or wrong data produce incomplete or wrong results. Missing items are flagged and excluded from the total.
• Anyone using the result in commercial communication (labels, product pages, environmental claims) is responsible for checking that it complies with the applicable rules, including those on environmental claims.

Data sources and licences

• Carbon intensity of electricity: Ember, via Our World in Data, CC BY 4.0 licence.
• Transport and fuel factors: UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Open Government Licence v3.0.
• Fibre factors: open-access scientific papers, CC BY licence, cited item by item.

The full list with links is available in JSON format. The Cormorant Garamond and DM Sans fonts are distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Intellectual property

Texts, graphics, illustrations and code on this site belong to their respective owners. Third-party data remain subject to their licences. You may quote the results of your calculations, naming CarbonWear as the tool used.

Liability

We take care over method and data, but we do not guarantee that the site is always available or free of errors. To the extent permitted by law we are not liable for damages arising from the use of the results. Use of the API is governed by separate terms, provided with the key.

Governing law

This site and this notice are governed by Italian law, without prejudice to the rights granted to consumers by the rules that protect them.
